Education Opportunities

NEAA’s “Core Course” can be taken on line. It is administered by David J. Maloney, Jr. AOA CM. It is entitled “The Complete Online Course in Personal Property Appraising (featuring USPAP). This course has been selected by NEAA because the course has been international recognized as one of the “standards” of personal property appraising. It offers also the personal supervision of Mr. Maloney and his critique of the student’s progress thorough the course. Many associations offer appraisal education often requiring travel, hotels, and other expenses. Here you can gain the start of an outstanding appraisal library, the first element of NEAA’s mentoring program, and all in the comfort of your own home and at about one-half the cost. USPAP (Unifor Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice)

There are two courses:

One is a 15 hour course that is required of those who have not taken USPAP before and a 7 hour refresher course. Personal Property Appraisers have been again traveling about the country, staying in expensive hotels, and taking these courses. I have made arraignments with VanEd to offer the basic 15 hour course. The New England Appraisers Association is composed of independent appraisers. The Association believes each member to be qualified in the field(s) in which he/she specializes but cannot be held responsible for their actions.

Yearly fee for membership in the NEAA is $60.00 per year. This includes the 4 issues of the Appraisal Standard, a listing on NEAAs website. By state; with your name,address,(street, city, and zip code) phone number, email and your business website, and a notation of your specialties.

Applications are processed as follows:

The application fee for new membership is $360.00 ( first year) without previous appraisal education and $60.00 thereafter. The additional fee is an outstanding mentoring program.

NEAA requires that you submit 3 references business or client based. Your background should be orientated to antiques, fine art, or of personal property appraising (auction, estate sales, or art, antiques journalistic background, business or equipment). If you are currently with another association: ISA, AAA, ASA and wish to add NEAA to your association membership you may bridge your designation with us and you will be listed on our web site as a member with your earned designation. (certified, or accredited) The cost of bridged membership is $160.00 for the first year and $60.00 thereafter.

New appraisers, their membership and mentoring
As a new appraiser you are encouraged to apply for the on line appraisal course offered by David J. Maloney, Jr. AOA CM. Mr. Maloney has been selected because he is well known, and respected within the industry. In addition, Dave has the requirement in his on line course that class members must submit an appraisal of their writing for his review. NEAA can not stress strongly enough that new members who have no established client base or have never written a personal property appraisal need the encouragement of a mentoring program. NEAA has adopted as its standard text for appraisal writing Appraising Personal Property: Principles and Methodology by David J. Maloney, Jr. and has developed its own writing standard which is compliant with USPAP requirments ( Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice).

New Appraisers, those who are active in the personal property world of antiques, equipment, estate sales,auctions, or education at the university level but who are not in the field of personal property appraising.

Candidate is the entry level for the New England Appraisers Association (NEAA)

Please complete the membership application and we will process your application. The fee for membership is $360.00. Enumerated the fee is $60.00 for the annual membership fee, and $300.00 for a one time processing fee, which includes an outstanding mentoring program for the development of your appraisal business.

NEAA believes in formal training and urges you to register with Dave Maloney’s course ” Complete Course For Appraisal Practice with USPAP( Dave@ Maloney,.com) and the 15 hour course sponsored by the Appraisal Foundation (VanEd.com). To move your membership from “candidate” to ” full member” you must complete these courses. A year of candidacy is given to document the completion of these educational requirements and at least three years of market related experience in a chosen specialty field. Our association has a motto of knowledge, experience, and integrity, and we approach our established standard by these strict ethical codes.

MEMBERSHIP and CREDENTIALING LEVELS

CANDIDATE-those who are applying for membership, or who are in the process of completing their “core” educational levels

MEMBER-those who have completed their “completed” their “core” education

ACCREDITED MEMBER-who who have taken advanced courses in their specialty fields

CERTIFIED MEMBER-those who have had their appraisal knowledge(methodology) tested(written exam) and have had that methodology applied by appraisal reviewed by their peers and defended by discussion and appraisal review. Candidates for “certified member”have documented the number of their billable appraisal hours, the type of appraisals written (restricted, summary, or self-contained)and have availed themselves of further educational opportunities which have been documented by shows,conferences,speaking and teaching events,radio and television program leadership events.

BRIDGED MEMBERSHIP

NEAA welcomes members of other appraisal associations. Members who are currently a member of other nationally recognized associations may join NEAA by completing the application and by submitting two references and paying the fee for membership of $160.00. Enumerated the fee is $60.00 for the annual membership fee and $100.00 for processing. Those designations that have been earned and awarded to individuals may be bridged to NEAA and membership will be given with full designation.

About Us and a Little History:

OUR PAST

New England Appraisers Association was founded by Frank Rue Davis in 1980. NEAA has always maintained that the Association was created to serve by offering education, networking, and professional information to its members and professional services to the public at realistic costs. In 1985 the association was purchased by Linda and Robert Tucker of Ludlow, Vermont. The Tucker’s have maintained the associations reputation, created its logo, and furthered its membership from regional membership to one of international appeal. NEAA’s members are experienced, well trained, and are the leaders in their fields of personal property appraisal. Personal property appraisers are continually learning, sharing their knowledge, and developing resources to further their clients needs. NEAA’s membership requirements have been strengthened and maintained by Linda and Robert Tucker The association was sold to Edward T. Tuten, of Memphis, Tennessee in November of 2011. His interest in personal property was establish early in life by his grandmother,mom and dad. Membership in the International Society of Appraisers,earning a CAPP designation (certified appraiser of personal property), the New England Appraisers Association, has refined his appraising knowledge and experience as an appraiser.

OUR FUTURE

Increasing costs of other appraisal organizations and the continuing increasing of dues has created tremendous growth during the past year.
